6. The Power of Information

It is easy to become overwhelmed by all that is going on around the world. It may seem like there are tragic things happening every day and that it has gotten to a point where nothing can be done to help stop that. In my opinion, if people were more informed about world events, they would not feel as overwhelmed and helpless as they do now and they would be more inclined to be involved and help. When things are happening in other countries, or even other cities that are not our own, it is easy for us to feel like it is not our responsibility to do anything; that because we do not live there, it does not directly affect us, therefore it is not our problem. In part, this is due to lack of information because ignorance allows people to easily make the choice to stand back and have an inactive role in the world around them. However, once they learn more about a situation, the more they can relate or sympathize with what is going on and the more they know about how they can help.

Anything can happen to anyone at any time. No one is one hundred percent shielded from negativity and crime, therefore there might come a time when our communities face devastating conditions and other will not feel inclined to help. However, when an unfortunate event occurs, if it is publicized and information about how others can make a difference for that community is made clear, more people will take on that responsibility; more people will have hope that their actions can make a difference. As a race, we have to get rid of that sense of hopelessness that has gotten so bad that it is almost like an epidemic. This is extremely crucial when it comes to the younger generations because they are the future of our world. Anyone you meet will tell you that, neglecting to address the fact that those younger generations are growing up and living in the world we create for them and that older generations have created for us. If the younger generations grow up in a world of hopelessness, how can they possibly believe in themselves to make positive change and leave a good mark on this world? The change starts with us. If we come together to change our communities to be more hopeful about the opportunities out there for us to make change together, we will slowly be able to change the world to have that mindset, as well. This will allow future generations to be hopeful and make necessary change to the currently flawed world we are living in today.
